NZFGC welcomes strengthened Grocery Code, launches supplier training
The NZ Food & Grocery Council (NZFGC) welcomes the Commerce Commission’s final report on the Grocery Supply Code review and supports the strengthened provisions.
“We’ve consistently supported measures that promote fair and transparent trading relationships across the grocery sector,” says NZFGC Chief Executive Raewyn Bleakley. “It’s encouraging to see the Commission respond to industry feedback and strengthen supplier protections.”
To support suppliers, the NZFGC is refreshing its training programme in partnership with leading FMCG consultancy NextGen Group. Since the Code’s introduction in September 2023, the NZFGC and its training partner NextGen Group have trained over 700 industry executives. That programme will now be updated to reflect the updated Code, continuing to offer practical guidance and expert-led sessions tailored to supplier needs.
“We’re making sure suppliers are equipped to understand and apply the new Code. Our training continues to be practical, engaging, and tailored to real business needs,” says Ms Bleakley.
“The NZFGC is here to support suppliers every step of the way.”
Minister Nicola Willis, the Grocery Commissioner, industry experts, and Australian representatives with firsthand experience of the Australian Code will speak on theses changes at the upcoming NZFGC Annual Conference, which is taking place 10–12 November in Christchurch, more information on the conference can be found here. This is an excellent opportunity for suppliers and the wider community to engage and deepen their understanding of what’s ahead.
