NZFGC announces new Chair and Deputy Chair following board elections
The New Zealand Food & Grocery Council (NZFGC) is pleased to announce the election of Mike Cullerne as Chair and Cameron Scott as Deputy Chair of the NZFGC Board, following the recent Annual General Meeting.
Both were nominated by outgoing Chair Mike Pretty, whose six-year tenure has been marked by exceptional leadership and significant contributions to the sector.
Since stepping into the role in 2019, Mike Pretty guided the Council through a period of transformation, including navigating major grocery regulatory reforms, championing the design of the Plastic Packaging Product Stewardship Scheme, and representing New Zealand on the global stage through the New Zealand International Business Forum. During COVID, Mike spent an extraordinary amount of time and effort, extensively engaging with the government and steering the NZFGC and food manufacturers through one of the most unpredictable and challenging periods in recent history.
Mike Pretty will continue to serve on the NZFGC Board, and NZFGC extends its deep gratitude for his ongoing dedication to the industry.
Incoming Chair Mike Cullerne shared his vision for the future:
“The FMCG sector is a cornerstone of New Zealand’s economy, and I’m committed to ensuring our industry continues to thrive through collaboration, innovation, and strong advocacy. Taking on the role of Chair is both a privilege and a responsibility. This role is about representing the collective voice of our industry. I’m here to ensure that every member’s perspective is heard and that we continue to shape a competitive, sustainable, and consumer-focused FMCG landscape.
“We’re operating in a time of significant change, from regulatory shifts to evolving consumer expectations. I see this as an opportunity for the NZFGC to lead with clarity and help our sector adapt and grow stronger. My focus will be on strengthening our industry’s voice and ensuring we remain a trusted partner to all players.”
At the Annual General Meeting, the following board members were also elected: Janine Baldwin, Matt Donn, Ben Schurr, Corey Slieker, and Isi Tupou, joining Agnes Baekelandt.
NZFGC Chief Executive Raewyn Bleakley welcomed the new and returning board members and thanked all candidates for their interest in positions and support of the organisation.
“We are delighted to welcome Mike Cullerne as Chair and to see Cameron Scott return as Deputy Chair and welcome the new board.
“I also want to thank Mike Pretty, who has been a pillar of strength for the organisation, and we are fortunate to continue to benefit from his insights and experience on the Board.
“As we look ahead, the NZFGC remains focused on supporting our members and advocating for a thriving, sustainable FMCG sector, well-positioned to meet the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
