We’re pleased to share the results of our Plastic Packaging Consumption Survey, a valuable snapshot of plastic packaging across the sector — and there are some interesting shifts in the data.

The 2025 survey estimates that food and grocery companies place around 92,600 tonnes of plastic packaging on the New Zealand market each year. The report also highlights a continued move towards mono-polymer soft plastics, changes in the use of different resin types, and the level of recycled content in packaging.

With packaging stewardship and recycling continuing to be important issues for the sector, the latest data provides useful insight into where things are heading.
