Aussies shop around for groceries, research shows

Australians like to shop around when it comes to groceries. Roy Morgan Research reveals that while most of Australia’s 14.2 million grocery-buyers have a supermarket of preference where they do most of their shopping, a relatively low proportion of them do so exclusively at that chain, Food Navigator Asia reports.

More than three-quarters of shoppers visit at least two different supermarkets in an average month. Of the four major chains – Woolworths/Safeway, Coles, IGA, and Aldi – ICA has the most loyal customers with 30% of its regulars visiting only IGA each month, followed by Woolworths/Safeway (25%) and Coles (24%).
