Country of Origin Labelling legislation – media response
12 July 2018
Stuff asked for reaction to an interim report by the Primary Production Select Committee on the Consumers’ Right to Know (Country of Origin of Food) Bill.
Katherine Rich responded:
FGC hasn’t had a chance to analyse the report fully and is yet to get feedback from members, but on the face of it the Select Committee has significantly improved the bill. It was unworkable the way it was first drafted. Our instant coffee manufacturers who source coffee beans from all over the world and blend them to taste would have had to change their labels every week just for New Zealand. It was the same for sugar.
