Food innovation first speaker series topic for 2015

Food Innovation will be the subject of FGC’s Health & Technical Working Group’s first Breakfast Speaker Series of 2015. It will be in Auckland on March 4.

The guest speakers will be Professor Joerg Kistler and Dr Andrew Kelly who will discuss food innovation and R&D in New Zealand and ways of bringing that work to the global market.

This promises to be a top event, with both speakers offering a wealth of experience in food innovation and business.

Prof Kistler, a Swiss by birth, is Emeritus Professor at the University of Auckland, having held positions of Chair in Cellular and Molecular Biology (1999) and Director of the School of Biological Sciences (2001 – 2010). He established the Auckland Uni Bioinformatics Institute (2004), was the founder and former Director of the Institute for Innovation in Biotechnology (life sciences incubator), and was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand in 1997. He is now a Venture Partner with BioPacific Partners and spends six months of each year in New Zealand.

Dr Kelly co-founded BioPacificVentures with Patrick Coyle and Bill Kermode in 2005 and is its Executive Director. He is broadly experienced across food, agriculture, health and wellness, holds a PhD with management training, and has a 35-year career across the spectrum from discovery science to commercial success. Current and previous board roles include Horizon Science, Focus Genetics, CoDa Therapeutics, Wool Equities, EnCoate, Ultrafine Merino, Cleveland Biosensors, Rissington Breedline, Anzamune, and BioPacific Management.
