FGC Industry Issues Workshop

The first FGC Workshop of the year is being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Auckland, 18 March, 9.00am – 4.00pm.

A one day “Industry Issues Workshop – towards smarter decisions” is being run by AdvisorBase Consultants Charles Wilson and Louise Williams. They have conducted a number of successful workshops and seminars for the FGC.
The workshop provides views on current industry developments and their implications. It presents the background thinking and uses Cost to Serve and scenario modelling techniques to illustrate the issues.
The workshop will be of relevance and interest to staff with sales, finance and strategic responsibilities.
The workshop will focus on four participatory, case study based, sessions. These are wide topics that will be dealt with at an overall business or general/senior management level.

1. Route to market – The best way to get product into the market is a strategic as well as cost driven decision. The case study will look at both selling strategy and delivery options. Workshop participants will come away with insights into effective route to market strategies and appreciation of the role of Cost to Serve and scenario modelling have in evaluating alternative route to market strategies.

2. Performance based pricing – Supplier funded promotions are commonly the largest controllable expense that suppliers face after cost of goods sold, and are also one of the most effective instruments for increasing sales. A detailed look at trade spend will almost always indicate areas of sub-optimality and areas for improvement. Participants will come away with knowledge of the techniques involved in assessing the impact on profitability and of the inter-relationship of variables such as trading terms, price support, retailer margins, and percentage sold on promotion.

3. Primary freight and factory gate pricing – It may look easy but there are real pitfalls. The workshop attendees will come away with an update on developments regarding retailer involvement in primary freight, an awareness of the key issues and pitfalls as well as practical advice on dealing with primary freight in their own businesses. In addition to staff with sales and finance responsibilities it will also have relevance to staff with supply chain responsibilities.

4. Sustainability – Sometimes seen as a vague and difficult area to get to grips with, the workshop presents participants with a practical approach to addressing sustainability in a way that focuses on the key issues and renders them into terms that management can deal with.
