Half Year Meeting & AGM next Tuesday

Registrations are still open for the Half Year Meeting and AGM which will be held next Tuesday (April 12) in Auckland. The keynote speaker will be Diane Foreman, CEO of the Emerald Group. Other speakers include FGC Chairman Pierre Van Heerden, Phil O'Reilly & Dayne Riddell. Members will hear reports from FGC CEO Katherine Rich and all the FGC working groups, plus some other interesting industry short presentations.

At the Annual General Meeting, as per the FGC constitution, members formally elect and re-elect office bearers, hear reports from working groups and the secretariat, set subs for the year and approve accounts and budgets.

About our speakers

Diane Foreman – Entrepreneurship, leadership and FMCG insights: Diane will be known to members as of New Zealand's most successful businesswomen and entrepreneurs. She is the founder, Chair and CEO of Emerald Group, a company that is either wholly owned or has been a significant shareholder in multiple businesses across a variety of sectors. Through Diane’s leadership and vision, Emerald Group has had investments including the provision of private health care and the development of retirement living in New Zealand, the manufacture and retail of furniture in the United States, the provision of recruitment and contracting services in Auckland, a boutique hotel on the North Shore, and marketing, sales and distribution of New Zealand Natural Infant Milk formula in China.  Her jewel is the Emerald Food family, with brands Movenpick, Killinchy Gold, Heavenly Treats, Lite Licks, Chateau Premium and iconic brand, New Zealand Natural.  The Emerald Foods business was sold to Chinese interests in June last year. Diane’s Charitable Endeavours include being Chair of the Ferguson Foreman Foundation that has been established to support Education, child health and deaf education.  Diane was awarded the EY Entrepreneur of the Year in New Zealand in 2009 and represented New Zealand at the World Entrepreneur of the Year in Monte Carlo in 2010.  She was presented with Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for service to business in 2012. Highlights in recent years include New Zealand Natural winning Supreme Award for Large Manufacturer in the New Zealand Ice Cream Awards in 2014, being named by Forbes Asia Magazine as one of Asia’s 50 most powerful women, and becoming Patron of Entrepreneurial Winning Women.  A business book In the Arena was published in 2015.

Pierre van Heerden, General Manager of Sanitarium and Food & Grocery Council Chairman: Pierre will deliver the Chairman's Annual Address on the FGC year and issues facing the grocery sector.

Dayne Riddell – Driving better business through Four Square – perspectives from the retail frontline: Dayne Riddell has been both a grocery supplier and retailer. Formerly the National Sales Manager for Cerebos and an active member of FGC’s Supply Chain Working Group, he became a retailer in 2012 as owner/operator at Wellsford Four Square. Over the last three years he’s seen many opportunities for suppliers to drive greater growth, and he will share his personal insights about how you can improve profitability and drive greater sales through the Four Square network.

Phil O'Reilly – The outlook for New Zealand business in 2016: Phil has operated at the pinnacle of public policy and business engagement in New Zealand and globally. He is Chair of the Business & Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC) based in Paris and a member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) based in Geneva. After 10 years of leading Business NZ, he’s set up Wellington’s newest public policy consultancy, Iron Duke. He will give FGC members insights into what to expect from the economy, politics and business environment.
