Description: A 45 hour course (delivered over 14 weeks) at NZQA level 8, contributing 15 credits towards the Unitec Master of Business degree. This course encourages participants to think about the futuristic environment and its opportunities. Topics include innovation and entrepreneurial policies, future trending, knowledge management; and “hot topics” such as intellectual capital, tacit and explicit knowledge. Description:

Description:

APMG 8096 : Organisational Behaviour and Development
Description:
A 45 hour course (delivered over 14 weeks) at NZQA level 8, contributing 15 credits towards the Unitec Master of Business degree. This course examines the main psychological and sociological theories around understanding the nature and functioning of organizations and of groups within them, and examines boundary roles and facilitators in transformation processes. General Management
Description: The five-day course builds on the extensive knowledge of the executives and introduces some of the latest concepts and practices in the different general management areas. The five day programme will focus on five general management issues including: marketing management, finance for non-financial managers, communication skills, leadership and strategic management. The course will benefit middle to senior managers that want to develop a cross-section of general management skills that will complement their existing functional skills. Competitive Strategy
Description: The main objectives of this course are to give participants the knowledge and skills to help make their organisations more competitive, and to provide a planning format that can guide the formulation and implementation of competitive business strategies. Modules discuss various aspects of developing a strategic vision, future focus, competitive strategies, responsive and innovative organisations and a strategic business-planning format to guide strategy formulation and implementation. The plan forms the "backbone" of the course and participants will be encouraged to analyse aspects of their own organisation during the various modules.

Project Management Workshop
Description: From time to time all busy managers find themselves managing projects, developing a plan and then controlling a diverse range of activities, events and resources to meet deadlines. These projects can be as diverse as introducing a new product, to planning the office relocation. Whatever the project, there are both specific and generic skills that apply. Recognising that most managers manage projects as a secondary role, this workshop concentrates on the core elements of a structured project life cycle, without delving into highly technical aspects.

Effective Team Leadership
Description: The skills developed in this course will focus participants on the distinct role of the team leader and enable an easier and more effective transition from "superdoer" to "supervisor". This program uses our Effective Team Leadership workbook, which the participant retains as an ongoing reference document. The Effective Team Leadership program is run on three non-consecutive days. This provides the advantage of giving participants the opportunity to further develop by practising and implementing their new skills, in their own work environments, between training days. On their return to the course for day 2 and 3, time is spent in discussion and consultation on their success and/or difficulties with the application of the training. Description: A lot of business communication is presented in writing, especially with the dramatic upsurge in the use of email. This program is designed to remove the apprehension often associated with writing and to build effective written communication skills. The first part of the workshop looks at the communication process and the skills associated with writing. The second part then shows how to apply these principles to letters, emails, and memos.
